A very kind and compassionate woman I once met often used to use the phrase 'Pain is pain' during our conversations. It was something I had felt strongly about for a long time, but never found quite as short and sweet a way to articulate it. Pain is pain...

"The reason people are pissed off is because women have been complaining about these side effects from their hormonal contraceptives for years, but it has taken this trial for anyone to actually start questioning it and to think that these side effects should not be suffered by ANYONE. It has been pretty much ignored up to now and we have been told that it's just part of what you have to deal with if you want to use contraception. Of course it would irk you a little when you have been laughed at and turned away from women's health clinics for asking for a natural, non-hormonal method of contraception, because you can't handle the side effects either. People are just angry that this trial, which caused the same side effects for men for a very short period of time compared to how long women have had to put up with them due to there being no alternative methods, is what has caused people to actually start questioning if anybody should have to deal with these side effects as part of taking contraceptives. For me , this isn't about asking men to 'man-up', it's about asking our healthcare providers to take us all seriously and respect our decisions, regardless of our gender."
